Head of Boarding

We are looking for Head of Boarding for an international school based in Chengdu. This is a full-time position commencing from the upcoming academic year in August 2025.

About the school

International school based in Chengdu has both day and boarding options for Chinese nationals and is backed by its UK college. The Chengdu campus offers pre-school, primary and secondary and can accommodate 1200 students.

About the role

An enthusiastic and experienced individual is sought for a key pastoral role in a restructured boarding team, with a focus on the overall well-being of boarding pupils. This role involves managing pastoral care, parent communication, and upholding the institution's values in handling boarding matters.

• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements set by the overseeing international education body, coordinating with the Director of Education or their delegate for boarding inspections
• Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of boys' boarding policies/regulations, including relevant legislation
• Accurately and promptly maintain records for boys in boarding, adhering to local authority requirements
• Manage the organization and development of boys' boarding, covering both daily operations and medium-to-long-term planning
• Oversee the welfare, safety, discipline, and pastoral care of boys in boarding
• Foster effective communication between the boarding community and the wider educational institution

Requirements

• Degree holder with teaching qualification and preferably a BSA boarding qualification
• Extensive prior experience in boarding, ideally across all levels and within an independent school environment
• Capability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team
• Proficient and convincing communicator, both in writing and speaking
• Empathetic and sensitive in interactions with students, parents, and colleagues
• Comprehensive understanding and adherence to safer recruitment policies
• Must be able to teach a mainstream academic subject
