We are looking for a Design Subject Teacher for an International School based in Xian. This is a full-time position starting as soon as possible or August 2023.

This role involves teaching Design to the middle school (MYP - Middle Years Programme). Whereas most art courses are structured through prescribed projects and lessons, IB emphasizes a balance between direct instruction and careful coaching. The teacher takes on the role of facilitator, guiding each student along his or her design journey, providing instruction and resources when necessary and encouragement for individual growth and creative exploration. An IB Design class tends to look more like a designer’s studio with each student pursuing his or her own path, connecting to the design cycle.


Job responsibilities

  • Using a range and balance of teaching strategies
  • Grouping strategies using a variety of different learning situations
  • Viewing students as thinkers with their own emerging theories
  • Building on what students bring to the learning experience in the way of prior understanding, 
  • Knowledge and skills -using a variety of resources representing multiple perspectives
  • Empowering students to feel responsible and to take action
  • Involving students actively in their own learning
  • Pursuing open-ended inquiry and real life investigations


Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Education or Design or Visual Arts Degree
  • At least 2 years relevant teach experience
  • Ideal candidate will have MYP experience
  • Familair with IB curriculum
