We are looking for a Curriculum
Director for an international school based in Shanghai. This is a full-time
position starting from the upcoming academic year in August 2023.
About the school
Established in 2008,
this international school is situated in QingPu district in Shanghai. The
campus has primary, middle and high school divisions and extends across roughly
150 acres. At present, the school has a total of 1,500 students in both
Domestic and International Divisions. The educational program follows the American
Common Core and AP educational guidelines. Furthermore, the school has crafted
an amalgamation of traditional Chinese culture as well as Western educational
philosophies into its curriculum.
About the role
- In consultation with the principal and vice-principals, source and implement school's-appropriate curriculum.
- Liaise with MS/HS curriculum director to ensure coherence of 1-12 curricula, and specifically grades 5-6.
- Design and provide staff development relative to curriculum.
- Create and supervise vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment teams.
- Along with the GLLs and in collaboration with SLT, monitor delivery of
curriculum and support teachers as needed in this area.
- Develop a staff training plan regarding curriculum development and
implementation.
- Along with the GLLs, oversee the selection of textbooks, resources, and
other materials connected to curriculum implementation.
- Liaise with MS regarding their admissions test/program to ensure smooth
transition for primary graduates, including long-term monitoring of school's PS
graduates into MS to help determine gaps in curriculum and implementation at
the PS and MS levels.
- Attend transition meetings with both PS and MS teachers to help ensure a
smooth transition for students between grades 1-5, and grade 5-6,
- Collect and interpret student achievement data. Collaborate with SLT and
the IT Director for records of achievement on Power School.
- Attend GLL meetings when curriculum is discussed, when requested by the
GLL.
- Along with the GLLs, work with and provide guidance and support teachers
to interpret data in order to adapt and guide pedagogical practices.
- Along with the GLLs, work with the respective subject coordinators and
assist teachers and grades develop the curriculum/unit plans and implementation
strategies for their respective courses, including the identification and
progression of key learning skills and standards by grade.
- Along with the GLLs and SCs, work with individual teachers to assess
current resources, activities, assessments and evaluation methods currently in place
and how these connect to the curriculum and standards-based grading an
reporting.
- Collect and interpret parent survey data as it pertains to delivery of
curriculum.
- Manage admissions testing and placement.
- Assist GLLs and teachers in the curriculum review process.
- Liaise with the Chinese and Domestic Division staff as necessary.
- Be the first and main point of contact regarding Universal Design for
Learning, Backward Design, and SIOP.
- Coordinate meetings with subject and grade level coordinators as needed.
