China released the official public holiday schedule for 2025. The schedule features the two major public holidays – Spring Festival and the National Day Holiday.
Exciting changes include an increase in public holidays by 2 days: Chinese New Year’s Eve and May 2nd. This extends the Chinese New Year holiday to 4 days (New Year’s Eve to the third day of the lunar new year) and the Labor Day holiday to 2 days (May 1st and May 2nd). With these changes, the total public holidays for all citizens will increase from 11 to 13 days.
Keep in mind that in China, it’s common to work on the Saturday and Sunday prior to long breaks to compensate for the extended time off. For instance, Sunday, January 26th, and Saturday, February 8th, 2025, are official working days in the government calendar.
While these dates are set, private companies can adjust their holiday schedules to allow extra days off or designate the weekend before holidays as working days. The only requirement is that the official holiday dates must be observed.
